Story

The Hobson Cup is an annual alumni event run by the University of Bristol Tennis Club. Past and present members of UBTC face off in a fun filled afternoon of tennis, netball and football.

The Hobson cup was started in memory of Jack Hobson, past UBTC member, BUCS player and student coach. Jack's contribution to UBTC as his time as a student was outstanding. Jack passed away after he graduated.

This year we are raising money for Healthy Minds, a mental health programme run by the University of Bristol sport department. Healthy Minds aims to improve the wellbeing of Bristol students affected by mental ill health through a supported, monitored, and mentored programme of physical activity. 90% of participants that have completed the programme feel that Healthy Minds had a positive effect on their mental health/wellbeing goals.

Hobson Cup 2023 Update

What a great day we had this year at Hobson cup 2023. Coming together as current students and alumni, in memory of Jack Hobson, we have currently raised £230 for Healthy Minds. Our just giving page is still open with the link above if you want to donate to a good cause.

Out of our 3 sports, Tennis, Netball and Football, the alumni won all 3 this year making it a clean sweep! Some great performances across the alumni secured the tennis. Netball was more convincing with the alumni not loosing a match. Football was the closest with the game ending 4-4 and the alumni clinching it 5-4 on penalties. In the end, a great day was had by all and for an even better cause. Our just giving page- Donate
